Local Resources
We have a good local museum with archives operated by the Matamata Historical Society www.matamatahistoricalsociety.co.nz. MHS is in the process of putting its catalogue online - although this is going to be a very gradual process. They have a very large collection of negatives from the estate of a photographer . These are still in the process of being catalogued and filed for ease of access and only a small selection have been digitised and/or printed. They do have volunteers dedicated to answering queries so it is worth making contact if you think they can help.
The Firth Tower Museum has its own website www.firthtower.co.nz. This would be more for applying flesh to the skeleton. Enquiries to the library or council get referred out to either ourselves or the Historical Society.
