Family History Month

Family History Month is observed annually during the month of August across New Zealand and Australia. It's a time to reflect on our roots and celebrate our unique histories and identities.

Apart from a range of special events held all over New Zealand, it's an opportunity to showcase the significant resources that are available to researchers of family history.

These are some of the events being held in August 2024. Also check the Events Calendar for local branch and interest group meetings

Auckland Family History Expo

Auckland Libraries and the Genealogical Computing Group (an interest group of NZSG) proudly present a weekend-long event covering a wide range of topics on researching genealogy and family history. Friday 9 August to Sunday 11 August, Fickling Centre, 546 Mt Albert Rd, Three Kings.

  • Friday 9 August 2024: Opening event $25 per person to cover catering expenses.
  • Saturday 10 August 2024: Free entrance for all.
  • Sunday 11 August 2024: Free entrance for all.

Combined Greater Wellington Branch Event

DNA - But wait there's more... Learn about the latest tools for genealogical research.

The Combined Greater Wellington Branches are having a Family History Month event at Tawa Union Church, 6 Elena Place, Tawa, on Saturday 24 August 2024, from 9.30am to 4pm. $5 entry fee. View the poster.

Free Seminar - “How to Research Your Family Tree Using Resources in the McNab New Zealand Room". 21 August 2024, 7pm in the Dunningham Suite, 4th Floor, Dunedin Public Library, 230 Moray Place, Dunedin.

East Coast Bays Library Workshops

East Coast Bays Library are hosting two workshops in the library in Browns Bay which will be presented by The New Zealand Society of Genealogists.

  • Saturday 24 August 10am – 11.30am - Getting the best from Ancestry Family History Library Edition
  • Saturday 31 August 10am – 11.30am - Creating Family Trees with online software

These have limited spaces, so bookings are required and you will need to bring a laptop or tablet with you.
