Genealogy Information Sessions

Would you, a friend or family member who is showing an interest in genealogy like to know more about what it's about? Garry Phillips runs online monthly information sessions to tell you all about it.

  • First Tuesday of the month at 10am
  • First Friday of the month at 7.30pm

There is a 50 minute presentation and then a Q&A session.

NZSG Q&A - Novices Online Support Programme

This programme is designed to provide support to family historians who:

  • Attended an Introduction to Family History course in the last five years.
  • Joined NZSG in the last three years and need help to keep up momentum.
  • Decided to return to Family History research after an extended break, and want to update their research methods.
  • Are non-members of NZSG and want to experience what online support and services are available. (Attendance is limited to 3 sessions for non-members.)

The programme runs online on the first Tuesday of each month 7.30pm-9pm via TEAMs videoconferencing.

Cost

There is no cost to attend this ONLINE session, and your personal details are kept confidential.

Introduction to Family History Courses

Currently we offer an Introductory Course for those new to family history. These take place either online or at the Family Research Centre in Panmure, Auckland.

Our Introductory Course is run by Garry Phillips from the Hibiscus Coast. This course has been very successful both as a classroom course run for several years (by the Hibiscus Coast Branch of NZSG), and more recently as an Online Course for students around NZ and as far as Australia. More than 150 students have completed so far, with excellent reviews!

If you’re a more experienced researcher, please pass on the course details to your friends, Branch members etc. or anyone who may be interested in fast-tracking their genealogy experience.

Course fees apply:

  • NZSG Members - $45
  • Public - $65

FRC Course

This 4-day course is run at the Family Research Centre, Level 1, 159 Queens Road, Panmure, Auckland.

The course schedule is:

  • June 5, 7, 12 & 14, Wed/Fri 10am - 1pm
  • July 29, 31 and August 5, 7, Mon/Wed 10am - 1pm

Online Course

This course is run over 4 sessions. There will be a pre-course Meet the Tutor / Video conferencing session to give attendees the knowledge required to participate in the online video conferencing.

The course schedule (run over four successive Saturday mornings) is:

  • April 6, 13, 20 & 27, 9.30am - 12.30pm
  • September 7, 14, 21 & 28, 9.30am - 12.30 pm
